Honda is beating Volkswagen in Online Super Bowl 2012 Ad Wars

Thursday, February 2, 2012

Since last year, the first battle between the Super Bowl commercials takes place on Youtube in the days before the Big Game.

Volkswagen scored 13 million views for their 2011 Super Bowl ad The Force. Yesterday Volkswagen has released their 2012 Super Bowl commercial titled "The Dog Strikes Back." Sorry to say this, but the new Volkswagen Super Bowl Ad is an online failure. So far only 738,895 people have watch the ad on Youtube.

The Volkswagen teaser video titled The Bark Side had generated double the views in the same period of time. If nothing changes, the teaser for the Volkswagen Super Bowl 2012 ad will end up having more views before the Super Bowl airs.
The Bark Side has now over 10 million views.

All would be fine for Volkswagen, if not another car brand is beating them with two Super Bowl 2012 ads in the online wars by huge margin. The Honda and the Honda owned Acura Super Bowl commercials have reached already over 7 million respectively 5 million views.

Both commercials have still a chance to beat the record set by Volkswagen in 2011 of 13 million views before the Super Bowl game.

It is a major achievement for Honda to land two extremely viral Super Bowl ads. The Honda CR-V Super Bowl 2012 Ad is paying homage to Ferris Bueller staring Matthew Broderick. Honda totally hit a nerve with people that love this 80s movie and would love to see a sequel.

The Acura Super Bowl 2012 Ad stars comedian Jerry Seinfeld. In the ad titled Transactions, Seinfeld tries to get his hands on the 2014 Acura NSX using characters and stuff from the Seinfeld show including the Soup Nazi and Munchkin.

There are three days left for Volkswagen to turn things around, but I do not expect it to happen. The dog part of the Volkswagen Super Bowl ad is so so. Only the 15 seconds at the end in the Star Wars cantina are fun, but then by far not as good as that Darth Vader kid.

The Super Bowl 2012 is taking place in Indianapolis on February 5th, 2012. Watch already the first fully released Super Bowl 2012 Commercials online.
